Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. We respect the gift of your time when you volunteer with our projects. We aim to ensure that volunteering with Solent Repair and Reuse is a Positive Experience, so you will want to come back again.
Volunteering on your terms
We do not ask people to commit to attending events, it will be your choice. One of our goals is that every volunteer should feel they can go on holiday without guilt. Being a volunteer with us should never be a burden.

You can volunteer for one of our Projects or all of them, giving as much of your time as you like. That might be coming along to one event a year or all 25 events.
Who can volunteer
You need to be an adult to volunteer with Solent Repair and Reuse. Young people can volunteer, but they will need to be supervised by an adult who accompanies them.
Almost anyone can make a contribution to Solent Repair and Reuse
There are three main roles:
- Repair
- Hosting
- Publicity
Repair
Our Repairers work with our guests at the Repair Cafe events to help get broken things fixed. You don’t need to be an expert, though experts are welcome. A repair might be as simple as helping someone change the bag on a vacuum cleaner.
We encourage our volunteers to learn from each other, sharing skills and making the events a social experience.
A Repair Cafe is not simply a service; we aim to help our guests understand the challenges of repairing broken things and share skills they can use for themselves in the future.
Hosts
Our hosting team are the 1st people that our guests meet when they arrive, and our events would be impossible without their volunteering.
Our hosting team also looks after our volunteers, making sure there is a cup of tea or a cookie to help keep things moving.
Publicity
We need to keep working to ensure the community is aware of what we offer in new ways. If you can help take pictures, put up posters, create social media content, or suggest other inventive ways to engage with people, we would love to hear from you.
